Reports to: Cleaning Team Leader
Hours of work: 12:30pm 8:00pm Monday to Friday (35 hours per week, including non term time)
About the roleAs a Senior Cleaner at Edinburgh Napier University, youll play a key role in keeping our campuses safe, clean, and welcoming for everyonestudents, staff, and visitors alike. Youll work closely with the Cleaning Team Leader to make sure our facilities are maintained to a consistently high standard, with a strong focus on quality service and a positive campus experience.
While this role doesnt come with formal management duties, youll take the lead during shifts by assigning tasks to Cleaning Assistants, keeping things running smoothly, and stepping in to resolve any issues that come up.

Responsibilities will include
  • Keep working areas to a consistently high cleaning standard and maintain a safe, hygienic environment.
  • Deliver cleaning and welfare services within agreed SLAs, with a focus on student experience, staff welfare, cost and timelines.
  • Be a visible, positive presence for customers and ensure team members provide a consistent, values-led service.
  • Carry out routine inspections of service delivery and take appropriate remedial action.
  • Manage the issue, reconciliation and safe keeping of stock and keys.
  • Provide the admin support needed to help deliver cleaning and welfare services across campus, including monitoring time-keeping, performance and absence in line with HR policies.
  • Provide on-the-job training to ensure safe working practices (e.g. H&S, COSHH) and keep appropriate training and risk-assessment records.
  • Report campus issues promptly to the Helpdesk and Cleaning Team Leader; undertake any other duties as requested.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience
  • Demonstrable experience supervising a high-performing cleaning team and achieving optimum performance levels in Cleaning & Welfare Services.
  • Experience supervising staff using HR policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of statutory and regulatory obligations for cleaning.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; a commitment to customer service and motivating teams to deliver consistently high standards.
