Main Purpose: To ensure that the school premises are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety, providing a pleasant environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. 

Reporting to: Site Manager / Head Teacher 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Clean classrooms, corridors, toilets, and communal areas daily as directed by you line manager. 
  • Empty bins and dispose of waste safely. 
  • Wipe down surfaces, furniture, and equipment. 
  • Vacuum carpets, mop floors, and polish where required. 
  • Refill soap, paper towels, and other consumables. 
  • Report any damage, hazards, or maintenance issues promptly. 
  • Follow COSHH regulations and use cleaning products safely. 
  • Ensure all cleaning equipment is maintained and stored securely. 
  • Support the school’s health and safety and safeguarding policies. 

  • Person Specification – School Cleaner Qualifications and Training: 

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills. 
  • Health and safety or COSHH training (or willingness to complete). 
  • First aid training (desirable). Experience: 
  • Previous cleaning experience in a school or similar environment (desirable). 
  • Experience working as part of a team. 

  • Skills and Knowledge: 

  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently. 
  • Good attention to detail and time management. 
  • Understanding of cleaning procedures and safe use of chemicals. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues. 

  • Personal Qualities: 

  • Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy. 
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards. 
  • Respectful and professional attitude. 
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion. 
  • Be willing to undertake training, if required.
