Join our team as an External Grounds Cleaning Operative and help keep our college campus looking its best. In this important role, you’ll ensure outdoor areas remain safe, clean, and well-maintained, creating an inviting environment for students, staff, and visitors.

This is an hourly paid position, working 15 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 7:00 am – 10:00 am) during term time only (42 weeks per year).

Responsibilities

  • As an External Grounds Cleaning Operative, you will:
  • Clean and maintain pathways, car parks, and outdoor communal spaces.
  • Remove litter, debris, and potential hazards.
  • Carry out seasonal tasks such as leaf clearance, gritting, and snow removal.
  • Complete basic grounds maintenance, including strimming, hedge trimming, and weed control.
  • Care for flowerbeds and support eco-friendly waste and recycling practices.
  • Keep accurate records of cleaning schedules and report any issues.
  • Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

    Candidates must have experience in the use of fertilisers, pesticide applications, hand equipment, small mechanical tools, and health and safety practices related to grounds cleaning. General knowledge of plants, horticulture, and grounds maintenance techniques is required. Strong communication skills, physical ability, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team are necessary.
