Us
The Mary Lyon Centre at
MRC Harwell (MLC) is located in an expanding science and innovation
park in Oxfordshire and is an internationally renowned centre at
the forefront of genetics research. As the hub of the new National
Mouse Genetics Network, the specialist facilities and capabilities
of the MLC support a number of distinct research clusters spread
across the UK to accelerate our understanding of human
disease.
About the
Role
We are looking for a
hardworking and enthusiastic person to join our cleaning and
sterilisation team. This team plays a key role in upholding the
standards of cleanliness in the Mary Lyon Centre, as well as
providing sterile equipment for the housing of genetically altered
mice, which are needed for medical
research.
Previous experience in sterilisation is
desirable; however, full training will be given and applicants will
have the opportunity to apply for further qualifications, including
an NVQ and forklift truck licence.
The overall
purpose of this role is to maintain the unit to the required
standards of cleanliness and to process, prepare and deliver
sterilised equipment and consumables, necessary for laboratories
and animal holding areas
(mice).

You will need to
hold/have:
· Basic
literacy and
numeracy
· Be
able to use a computer
competently.
· Have
some previous experience in a cleaning role and be used to working
in a busy
environment.
· Have
some experience and understanding of the importance of maintaining
a clean
environment
· Excellent
attention to detail
Key
Responsibilities
Your
main duties and key responsibilities
include:
· Maintain
biosecurity/cleanliness/hygiene in laboratory and admin areas to
the prescribed
standards.
· Maintain
laboratory replenishment to satisfactory levels, including bottle
filling, diet and bedding replacement, provision of sterilised
equipment.
· Operate
automated and semi-automated machinery such as autoclave, robotic
systems and tunnel washer, troubleshooting problems as they arise
and seeking advice where
appropriate.
· Monitor
consumables, ensuring that correct stock rotation and expiry dates
are adhered
to.
· Read and
adhere to local Standard Operating Procedures and risk
assessments
