3 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Job Summary:

As a Street Cleaning Operative, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of public spaces including streets, pavements, parks, and town centres. This role plays a vital part in keeping the local environment clean and pleasant for residents and visitors.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out daily litter picking on designated routes including streets, parks, and public areas.

  • Operate mechanical sweepers, hand carts, leaf blowers, or other equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Empty public litter bins and replace liners as required.

  • Remove fly-posting, graffiti, and debris from public spaces.

  • Report hazards, dumped rubbish (fly-tipping), damaged street furniture, or unsafe conditions to supervisors.

  • Use appropriate manual handling techniques and wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Follow route maps and daily schedules provided by the supervisor.

  • Respond politely and helpfully to queries from members of the public.

  • Assist in emergency clean-up operations following events, accidents, or severe weather.

  • Ensure correct disposal of waste in accordance with council or company guidelines.

  • Work independently or as part of a team in all weather conditions.


Requirements:

  • Good level of physical fitness – ability to walk long distances and carry out manual tasks.

  • Awareness of health & safety and safe working practices.

  • Ability to follow schedules and instructions with minimal supervision.

  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.

  • Previous experience in street cleansing or environmental services (desirable but not essential).




Requirements
Previous experience as an estate cleaner General education qualification (desirable) UK driving licence
